Means of transportation

The best way to go around the city is on foot, a district at a time. Buses and the underground are useful to reach more distant areas of the city. The underground has 5 lines (from A to E). Tickets cost approximately $0.70 and can be bought in the stations or from booths.

There are buses which run at night, and there are a large number of black and yellow taxis which can be hailed along the street. The ’radio taxis’, recognizable by the fact that they have a sign on all doors of the taxi, are better than normal ones (with two signs only). Taxis are very cheap for people coming from a country with a strong currency.

If you go to the airport, there are fixed rate taxis (called Remis), which you should book in advance. They are significantly cheaper to use when travelling to the airport.
